Discover The Extra Benefits Of Teaching Your Child The Backgammon Rule

Backgammon is a wonderful game to play with preschool age children. By the age of 4 a child should know better than to only put backgammon pieces in their mouth. At this age it becomes safe to play a backgammon set without any choking hazard. At the age of 4 you can start teaching your children the actual game. It will surely help them to learn not only about backgammon rules, but also to practice different calculus and basic probabilty calculation skills; develop a strategic thinking; get a sense of fair play; and be introduced to sportsmanship.

The game of backgammon teaches both basic andadvanced skills. Younger children count the dots on the backgammon dice. They then must move one or two game pieces according to the dice numbers. The child should learn how to match the number of each die to create the best possible move and of course know each triangle.

Eventually the child will be able to recognize the number on the die just by a breif look. It is well known that repetition reinforces skills but implementing it in a fun way can be a difficult mission. This is one of the unique qualities of backgammon.

Basic math

Use the game to introduce the concept of basic addition, numbering and counting. Have the child count the dots on each die individually, and then sum them both at the same time . Once the child grasps that there are two optional moves; either moving with 2 different pieces or moving only one checker the same amount of spaces as indicated by the sum of both numbers. Once a child recognizes those calculations it will be possible to start teaching the tactics behind each possible move.

A Sense Of A Fair Play

Games are a great way to give your kids a sense of honesty. Concepts such as chance, cheating, and manipulations can be taught a little at a time during the game. Take for instance the doubles rule, which may be difficult for a child to grasp at first. Once they realize the principle, however, rolling doubles is very exciting because it is almost like having 2 turns in a row. Comprehending that the opponent can also roll doubles helps a child to develop a sense of fair play.

Sportsmanship

Being a good sport is very difficult for some younger children to learn. Nevertheless, it is easier to teach it at home over a board game than in a playing field in front of other children and parents. A child should learn that it is okay to lose, as long as he or she has tried his/her best and played by backgammon rules.

Basic backgammon rules are simple enough for a child to learn. A good backgammon game gives you some quality, one on one time with your child. It is also a wonderful teaching opportunity.
